 Crystal IS, Inc. is the market leader in the commercialization of single-crystal aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates for the cost-effective production of high power, high temperature, and optoelectronic devices such as blue and ultraviolet lasers. In 2002, RPI licensed its ownership interest to Crystal IS, and they moved into the Incubator. During 2004, the company raised $5.1 million to commercialize the AlN growth process and develop a substrate suitable for production manufacturing applications. They received $7 million in funding and graduated from the Incubator in 2005, and in 2006, Crystal IS released the world's first native 2-inch AlN substrates with etch pit densities. |

 MapInfo Corporation started out as a class assignment at RPI almost 20 years ago has since resulted in a successful $150 million company. MapInfo was founded by four RPI students and a former professor. While originally conceived as a navigational telematics company, MapInfo founders revised their original business plan in pursuit of providing mapping for the desktop. MapInfo was housed in the Incubator program, and now has its corporate headquarters in the RPI Tech Park . They are the leading provider of location intelligence solutions, serving more than 7,000 customers from around the world. |

 Etransmedia Technology Inc. provides technology based service solutions to the healthcare, legal, financial and insurance industries. In 2001, Etransmedia won the student Business Plan competition held at RPI. They entered the Incubator program and received $500,000 in investment. The company has located in the Rensselaer Tech Park , and is a now $3 million per year company. |

 Albany Molecular Research Inc. (Nasdaq: AMRI) was named one of Inc. 500 fastest growing companies, and is a leading chemistry-based drug discovery, development and manufacturing company, focusing on applications for new small molecule prescription drugs. The company's research has led to dozens of issued and pending patents, including important patents for the active ingredient in the non-sedating antihistamine, Allegra. The principals made a personal gift of 85,000 shares of AMRI stock to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which is the second installment of a $3 million commitment. The gift recognizes the support and resources the company received in its early years from RPI. |

 Float Tech ® Inc. (formally known as Orca Gear Inc), began in 2002 as a year long project in an MBA class at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Three students invented, designed, manufactured, and created a plan to sell attractively styled inflatable life jackets. They won the 2003 RPI Business Plan competition, and used the money to get the product off the ground. Now the life vest is receiving widespread praise, and the company projects sales to exceed $1 million (2005). |

 Starfire Systems, Inc. was founded 1988 to demonstrate the usefulness of a newly developed and patented SiC precursor polymer, STARFIRE SMP-10. Starfire offers a wide range of patented silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic forming polymers and material systems that companies used where high temperature, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and weight are requirements that must be met. Starfire materials have been tested on space shuttles. |

 GlobalSpec is an engineering search engine that links buyers and sellers in the $500 billion dollar electrical, mechanical, and optical products market. The company was started by an alumnus, an RPI student, and two others who were taking night classes in the MBA program. Once they moved into the Incubator, they hired students and interns and presented at the Venture Bplan series. They raised $20 million from a leading VC firm, graduated into the RPI Tech Park, and now employ over 100 people in the area. |

 1st Playable Productions, LLC is an independent game development studio with a focus on handheld games for kids. 1st Playable entered the Incubator program with a small staff of developers, and graduated after only 14 months with over 37 employees. The company is a licensed developer for Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Microsoft Xbox, as well as other embedded game platforms. The founder earned a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from RPI, and spent five years overseeing product development at a respected game developer before founding 1st Playable. |

 Vicarious Visions started in 1991 as a hobby by two brothers still in high school. In 1994, the company incorporated and began operations in a RPI dorm room and eventually grew into the Incubator Program. The same year, they released their first title, Synnergist. In 1996 the company's second title, Dark Angael ships. By 1999, Terminus wins awards. 2000 - 2002 brings Polaris SnoCross, Spider-Man, Jimmy White's Cue Ball, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Spider-Man 2, Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc., Crash Bandicoot, SpongeBob Squarepants, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (3 & 4), Powerpuff Girls, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, and Whiteout. Early in 2005, Vicarious Visions was acquired by Activision, and today offers Doom3, Madagascar , Madagascar : Operation Penguin, Tony Hawk's American Sk8land, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Over the Hedge. |
